Yoga Asanas for Painful Knees may sound like a new concept to you, but it refers to the same thing as Vinyasa yoga. Vinyasa yoga is the brand of yoga that I practice and teach. It combines various yoga asanas into sequences that challenge your body and connect you to your inner core. When I started doing yoga, I was unfamiliar with the asanas and didn’t know how they would benefit me. But I quickly realized that yoga could help me with my chronic pain.
Seated Forward Bend
One of the easiest yoga asanas for your knees is seated Forward bend. I love to do this pose because it’s easy, and yet it provides tremendous pain relief. You sit on a chair or the floor, place both feet flat on the floor, and just straighten your back as far as you can. Now, spread your arms out on your sides and place your hands on the sides of your head and let the weight of your body fall on them.
Next, pull your knee cap up towards your armpit. Make sure that your knee cap goes all the way up to your shoulder. Then, slowly pull the knee cap back down. Repeat stretch of the stretch as many times as you can. This will massage your lower back and provide pain relief for the injured knee.
Hamstring Stretch Is Also A Good Option
If you are doing yoga on a mat, you can also do a hamstring stretch before you do the yoga asanas for pain in your knees. To do the hamstring stretch, stand with your feet hip-distance apart, bend your knees, and put your hands on the sides of your head. Let the weight of your body hang on the hamstrings. Do the stretch as many times as you can, allowing the hamstrings to feel the stretch.
Seated Tree Pose
The next type of stretching exercise that I do for the pain in my knee is the seated tree pose. To do this pose, you must first sit comfortably on a chair. With your upper body positioned in a straight line, cross your legs over one another, and bring your feet together. Then, lean back until your head and neck to form a straight line. Open your mouth, and breathe in a while pressing your lips against your teeth.
In addition, if you find that you are in constant pain, you can consider chiropractic treatment. However, you must keep in mind that this option should only be considered when other treatment options fail. Many people do not realize that chiropractic is not the sole option for treating knee pain. You have the choice of using yoga or performing other stretching exercises at home. In addition, yoga can improve your overall health, which can help relieve the pain.
Even yoga asanas and stretches are not effective if you are not putting in the work that it requires. Therefore, if you have been experiencing knee pain, make sure you are getting the proper rest, and if you are one of these individuals doing all of the recommended stretching exercises.
